Cross Country Skiing

Experience the unique beauty of the Australian snow country: the inviting snow covered rolling hills, the beautiful snow gums encrusted with their icy jewels, the wind blown ice formations. Hear the silence of the spaces and guess at the animal paw marks in the snow.

Experience the adventure of exploring beyond the resorts, of breaking new tracks in virgin snow, of carving turns in soft spring corn, real off-piste, real snow. Experience the natural world of no crowds, no noise, no machines and no queueing.

Our members come from all walks of life, age groups and levels of fitness. Some are interested in day touring, others in extended snow camping trips, citizen racing and telemarking activities.

From Then Till Now

In 1975 a small group of avid back country skiers got together to form the NSW Nordic Ski Club. Then, knickerbockers and light skis were the trademark of the ski touring fraternity. Nowadays you are just as likely to see a club member in lycra skating in the Kangaroo Hoppet or carving turns down the crags on shaped XCD skis.

However it is done, skiing the back country is central to the Club's philosophy. The experience of 32 years in the wilds both in Australia and internationally is freely shared with members. From a humble beginning of a few dedicated cross country skiers the club has grown to over 200 active members involved in the whole spectrum of cross country skiing.
