GEAR LIST

An overnight pack should weigh no more than 1/4 of your body weight if you want to enjoy your skiing. Very fit (read silly) skiers can carry up to 1/3 of their body weight.

CLOTHING TO WEAR

Underwear - thermal or wool long johns and top
Wool shirt and trousers
Touring Boots - well sno sealed
Waterproof gaiters
Beanie
Sun visor
Sun glasses
Light gloves
Light nylon wind shell top
Socks - 1 light thermal pair, 1 thick wool.
Watch
Compass - Silva or Suunto
Map case and relevant maps.
Pocket knife
Handkerchief
Touring skis - preferably with metal edges
Touring three pin bindings with safety straps
Poles - aluminium, bamboo or fibreglass with full baskets

CLOTHING CLOSE TO HAND

Waterproof jacket - gortex, proofed nylon, oilskin, dry japara.
Waterproof trousers - as above with half zips or baggy enough to fit over boots.

Waterproof over mittens
Snow Goggles
Balaclava - wool or silk
Sweater - long sleeve close fitting. Preferably tight weave fine wool.

Survival kit. To include survival/rescue blanket, boat whistle, butane lighter
Note book and pencil
Sunburn cream - blockout
Lip chap stick
Money
Matches in a waterproof container
High energy food for snacks
Water bottle - minimum one litre
Penlight torch
5m of nylon cord

ITEMS TO CARRY

Framed pack - 65 litre minimum, in good condition with hip band
Sleeping bag - box wall with hood, minimum of 900 grams super down
Sleeping mat - close cell foam or thermarest - full length
Inner sheet - silk or cotton
Spare trousers - wool or track suit
Over garment for warmth at night and early mornings. Can be a
spare sweater, down duvet or fibre pile jacket.
2 pairs of sox

Plastic bags. Multiude of sizes, at least 10.

Screwdriver Posidrive. To match binding screws.
Pliers Small.
Gimlet device from making screw holes and cleaning old ones.
