INSTRUCTION
Telemarking
Telemarking is a free-heel turn invented by the Norwegians around 1870 and is the turn that most cross-country skiers aspire to. It involves dropping down on one knee and edging your skis in the direction you wish to go. Currently it is enjoying a boom in popularity and in the club we love it even though it is an art to learn. A lot of our instructionals concentrate on learning the art of telemarking and there are also days spent on the lifts at resorts as well as the annual Telefest held at Perisher Blue (telemark instruction and racing festival). There are also trips to the Main Range to leave some fresh tracks on the slopes around Kosci or for the confident skier there are trips to places like Watson Crags.
Instructionals
The NSW Nordic Ski Club has an extensive range of instruction days and weekends, whether it be for the beginner or more advanced skier. Using professional or club instructors some of the instructionals are for tourers, advanced telemarkers, skaters, snow campers and potential leaders. All instruction is based on learning coming from fun and is held in a positive and encouraging environment. There is usually a modest charge that applies to these instructionals and often the club finds accommodation in Jindabyne for members. Come along, as they are one of the highlights of the season.
